One keyword list per site with se: g_uk and a position filter. Your agent compares the lists.
A content gap analysis against a competitor, run in Claude.
Half of Plausible's 20 biggest gap keywords land on one backlinks guide.
A content gap analysis lists the keywords a competitor ranks for that you do not, then checks which gaps deserve a page. On 20 October 2026 an agent compared plausible.io with usefathom.com on Google US. None of Plausible's 20 biggest keywords at difficulty 40 or under showed up for Fathom. The run cost $0.0033.
FOR Content leads and SEO consultants planning what to write next against a named competitor
What a content gap analysis is
A content gap is a search your competitor shows up for and you do not. A content gap analysis lists those searches, sorts them by how many people search and how hard they are to rank for, and decides which ones deserve a page from you.
The list is the easy part. A keyword database already knows which domains rank for which keywords, so one call per site returns each list, and your agent compares them. The judgment is in the next step. Some gaps describe the competitor's product, not yours. Some are stale. A few are worth an article.
How to do a content gap analysis
Name one competitor that writes for the same buyers. Then work through four steps. The run below did each of them with one or two calls.
- Pull the biggest keywords each site ranks for, with volume and difficulty.
- Compare the lists both ways, so you know where they lead and where you do.
- Search the best gaps on Google today to see who ranks and what kind of page wins.
- Read the competitor page behind the biggest gap to see what it covers.

What the gap says about Plausible and Fathom
Plausible's gap is mostly one page. 10 of its 20 biggest keywords at difficulty 40 or under rank with the same backlinks guide, 12,800 searches a month between them. The guide runs 3,753 words and ends on how to measure whether links send traffic, then a trial link. That is a content play an analytics brand can copy. Teach a marketing topic, then show how to measure it.
Some big gaps are noise. "best single page apps" leads at 8,100 searches, but Plausible ranks #14 with an essay arguing you probably do not need one. Fathom's own top row, "big sites" at 4,400, ranks with a blog post on another subject. Volume alone does not pick the article.
Fathom has its own lead. Its UTM builder ranks for 4 of its 20 biggest keywords, 6,480 searches a month, led by "utm generator" at #3. Plausible does not rank for it.
Three articles the agent suggested
These are the agent's suggestions from the data above, not a tested plan.
- A guide to a marketing topic that ends in measurement, modeled on the backlinks guide. "what are backlinks" alone has 2,900 searches at difficulty 21, and videos hold the top three Google spots today.
- A bounce rate guide aimed at "bounce rate" itself, 2,400 searches at difficulty 24. Fathom ranks #6 for "bounce rate means" but not for the main term, where Wikipedia and glossaries rank.
- More free tools like the UTM builder, since it already ranks #3 for "utm generator" at 3,600 searches.
What the analysis cost
Each keyword list cost $0.0012, and each Google search and page read $0.0003. The run came to $0.0033. SEO suites include a content gap or keyword gap report in monthly plans, so check current pricing. Per-call pricing suits a gap check before a planning session.
Limits of a keyword gap list
The gap comes from two lists of 20, the biggest keywords each site ranks for at difficulty 40 or under. Fathom's 20th row has 720 searches and every Plausible row has 1,000 or more, so any Plausible keyword Fathom ranked for would have shown up in Fathom's list. The reverse is proven only for the 4 Fathom keywords above 1,000 searches. Ask for more rows to compare deeper into the 1,881 and 1,216.
Database ranks are dated. The keyword list puts Plausible at #8 for "what are backlinks" and #9 for "bounce rate". On 20 October 2026 it was in neither live Google result. Check a gap on live Google before you plan a page around it.
The run compared keywords, not topics, and did not read Fathom's own pages. It did not check backlinks or search intent beyond two Google searches. Volumes are monthly estimates for the US.

Good questions,
short answers.
What is a content gap analysis?
A list of searches a competitor ranks for that you do not, filtered by volume and difficulty, then judged for fit. In this run none of plausible.io's 20 biggest keywords at difficulty 40 or under showed up for usefathom.com on Google US.
How do I do a content gap analysis for free?
Search your main topics on Google and note which competitor pages rank where yours do not. It is slow and only covers keywords you think of. A keyword database returns each site's list in one call, $0.0012 on this run.
Can ChatGPT or Claude do a content gap analysis?
They can compare and group keyword lists, and draft briefs from them. They cannot see which domains rank for which keywords on their own. Connect a keyword database and a Google search tool and the lists are real.
How many keywords should a gap analysis compare?
This run compared the 20 biggest per site, $0.0012 a list. That proved 20 gaps for Plausible and 4 for Fathom. Ask for more rows per list to go deeper. The database counted 1,881 and 1,216 keywords.
How is a content gap different from a keyword gap?
A keyword gap is the plain list of keywords. A content gap is the pages you are missing, which may cover several keywords at once. Plausible covers 10 of its 20 biggest keywords with one page.
